This spectacular and fracture free piece of Arizona petrified wood showing mostly colors in light to dark yellows, tan/brown and red. It is also UV reactive and the UV photos show it under long wave UV light. I have taken many hours to shape this piece into a beautiful piece of art polished on the top and three sides with the back showing the original shape and texture of the piece. It weighs 6 lbs and is 5-1/2” tall and 5” wide. Shipping and packaging is included in the price.
Arizona petrified wood often referred to as rainbow wood is collected on private land outside the National Park boundary and was was buried hundreds of thousands of years ago under layers of ash preventing it from decay and allowing dissolved minerals to replace the wood structure with mostly quartz. Different minerals give the petrified wood from Arizona its very vibrant colors. The reds, oranges, and yellows are produced by forms of iron oxide with the yellows from limonite inclusions and the reds/oranges from hematite and the purples and blues are produced by manganese dioxide as a secondary mineral.
