This small Diplomystus dentatus I found in the mid level split fish layer of fossil lake it has detailed bone preservation that is very dark reddish brown . It is 3-1/2” long with great details shown in the very dark red/brown color. It is on a piece of naturally shaped lake bottom silt stone that is approximately 13” x 6-1/2” shipping and packaging is included in the price.
The second most common of fish fossils in the Fossil Lake representing approximately 25-30% of all fossil fish found. Diplomystus is one of the only Green River Formation species to spawn mid-lake and do most of their hunting nearshore on the fry of smaller fish species. They can often reach lengths of over a foot in length, maxing out around 2 feet long.
