Large Septarian Freeform Standup Nodule

This is an Utah septarian nodule or geode that I free-form polished and this one still has fossil snail shells visible on the outside of the nodule and an open back. This is a very large septarian geode/nodule and it has a solid cavity that is full of large beautiful calcite crystal. Septarian also is UV reactive. 

It weighs just over 9 lbs and is approximately 6 1/2” long, 6” wide and 3” deep.

Septarian was formed in the ancient sea bottom during the Cretaceous period. They evolved from sea life from the time being encased in a nodule and this initiated the formation of a septarian nodule. In most of them the snail, clam or other critter is gone but the cavity remains and is filled with Aragonite (dark brown) and calcite that at times formed beautifully arranged yellow crystals on the inside of a hollow chamber.
